Through this essay I will be talking about the ways through which gender stereotypes are strengthened through education. I was also gonna assess the main reasons why males and females select different subjects. For example males prefer to have more practical subjects such as maths, physics computing and ICT although girls prefer to take fine art subjects including English and Humanities. Studies have shown there is a significant difference between women and men taking certain subjects, and I am going to talk about if this is a key factor as to why ladies do better than boys, and explain the variation in entry numbers between males and females in a-level subjects. It includes also been confirmed the girls carry out significantly greater than boys in their a-levels and i also am going to talk about whether it is due to their subject options or whether it is because of other things such as category and racial. Also it continues to be said that women and men choose several subjects because they are likely to enter different occupations, for example boys are more likely to select subjects like the sciences for them to go into bigger paid professions such as medicine, whereas girls are more likely to select subjects just like health and social care to go into professions such as nursing or different caring vocations and I will be looking at whether this is true of BAB sixth form students. The ideas that will be tested are BAB sixth formers adhere to sexuality stereotypes in their subject choices, textbooks will be stereotypical inside their portrayal of gender and typically guy subjects may have more images of males and vice versa. The inquiries that will be asked for the research is usually do textbooks reinforce stereotypes? And do BAB sixth formers adhere to male or female stereotypes.
