Observational research aims to gain a detailed and in depth understanding of a certain area of research, usually a tiny group, through the researcher studying the group in their surrounding. This form of study can be either player or non-participant. Observational studies can also be executed in a covert or overt way. When it comes to overt statement the researchers will expose their personality to the group they are learning; in hidden observation they are going to remain concealed.

Observational research tend to generate qualitative instead of quantitative info. Although the studies may develop in-depth data, they can lack reliability and there may be issues in saving the observations.
